Western Circle of the NC Poor People's Campaign Update
July 3 email update from the NC Poor People’s Campaign
June 20 is in the books now, with 1.3 million in attendance online and another 1.2 million views since (yes, you can still go watch it at https://www.june2020.org/).
And because so many people signed on to the campaign as a result of the virtual Moral March and Mass Meeting, we want to tell you more about the NC Poor People's Campaign, at a virtual Open House, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25. We'll have more information on that coming soon, so please watch for it in your email.
What I want to talk about is our decision to start holding Zoom meetings for the Western Circle, which will allow us to set priorities for our region, and to plan and hold events and actions. As you may recall, we held a COVID-safe Drive-by Drop-off last month to collect items needed by ABIPA and BeLoved Asheville that brought in hundreds of pounds of cleaning supplies, bottled water and more for these two agencies to distribute to people in need. We'll be meeting online at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month.
Our next meeting will be 7 p.m. July 14. To attend, please shoot me an email so I can send you the link to join us. Because of the recent spate of people hacking into Zoom meetings, we'd like to send out the link to people who have signed up ahead of time instead of making it public.
Another event in the planning is a screening of a new documentary, "Let the People Decide," by filmmaker Gavin Guerra. Since the video quality on Zoom is poor in many places, we plan to send out the link to watch the movie on Vimeo 48 hours before the scheduled discussion with the filmmaker, who began shooting the film during the Moral Monday events of 2013-2015 in Raleigh and around the state.
I will send another reminder before our July 14 Western Circle meeting, but please feel free to send me an email before then if you have any questions.
